I’ve been religiously following Crystal and Bjorn’s blog called: Life can be wonderful! Wwoofers’ journey to enlightenment of the soul. The blog chronicles their adventures as they go woofing through England and beyond. Their adventures thus far have been nothing short of amazing and I am incredibly proud of them for taking the path less traveled. Quitting their jobs in advertising and pursuing a crazy dream to get closer to the environment, to foster better relationships with people across the globe and to really live Life and to enjoy working with the land.

Crystal is an old friend of mine whom I’ve known since I was 6 years old. Yup.. I can’t believe that we both went to the same primary, secondary and polytechnic schools together. While in polytechnic, she took the path of Mass Communications, and ended up working in Advertising; while I took the path of Film, Sound & Video, and ended up behind the camera in the Media industry.

We haven”t kept in much contact over the past few years, but when she was back in town recently, I got a chance to have dinner and drinks with her in Little India. That little reunion reminded me of how much talent this whirlwind of a woman has. She is incredible with the written word, and behind that brilliant smile, she holds a tongue that can throw you off your tracks if you dareĀ  to cross her. She doesn’t put up with bullshit, has a deep sense of commitment and swings between being a Monica and a Pheobe (characters from the sitcom Friends) every time we meet, which sure makes for interesting conversations. But anyway… their blog is truly inspiring, and I only wish Crystal and Bjorn all the very best on their incredible adventures ahead. Namaste!

There’s nothing more inspiring than reading the words of this boy wonder. I am absolutely in awe of how he goes about making music and inspiring change and positive action in everything that he does. Please check out Jason Mraz’s blog here.

Honestly, it is a challenge to stay that kind of a person everyday, but I believe that it is absolutely possible. To rewire the brain to learn about looking on the bright side of Life. It’s all too easy to just raise your hands to and say ‘I give up! Life is shit! Whatever!’ or to close your eyes and ears to all that is happening around the globe. But it speaks volumes when you go out there and seek change, to stay positive, to be grateful and to be humble. It is as hard as hell, but do it anyway, because you want to.

I recently exchanged a pair of my spare sock pois for this lovely book from Elizabeth Gilbert. Best barter trade I’ve done in awhile now. :) The book is an undeniably good read, but what surprised me most was the warmth and honesty of this woman’s voice. To me, this book speaks more about hope, light, and the beauty of Life more than any of those sickly sweet Chicken Soup for the Soul types stories.

But the thing that really struck a chord with me was the conversation that she has with a character named Richard, who defines the term soul mate in his own terms.

“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that’s holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down you walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave. Thank God for it.”

I couldn’t agree more. I believe that I’ve glimpsed into that mirror of a soul mate who has come and gone, who has revealed and challenged my ideals about love and life, and who has definitely sparked a change in me (for the better I hope). And now I wonder… will you meet more than one soul mate in this lifetime?

Received this beautiful gift this morning from my dear colleague who’s just returned from Sikkim, India where he trekked up the world’s 3rd highest mountain. The mountainous regions where he went were populated by many Tibetan exiles, and so he bought me a little prayer wheel with the simple mantra – Om mani padme hum. I love this little mantra, and I’ve chanted it millions of times in all sorts of stable/altered states of mind. Aahhh… I love this little gem. Apparently you’ve got to spin it in the clockwise direction and accumulate good karma! Whoohoo! We’re all spinning it at work. :)

Buddhists clasp their palms together to pray for enlightenment, but Conan, a chihuahua, appears to have more worldly motivations.

The dog has become a popular attraction at a Japanese temple after learning to imitate the worshippers around him.

“Conan started to pose in prayer like us whenever he wanted treats,” said Joei Yoshikuni, a priest at Jigenin temple on the southern island of Okinawa.

went for yoga yesterday at Ashtanga Yoga Singapore – had the good fortune of having vijay’s great company with me as well. the room was absolutely packed, we were a shala filled with nothing but good vibrations. and so we practiced, each at our own pace, some more advanced then others, some dripping in sweat more than others, some more in balance then others. it was like watching a beautiful physical orchestra from the back row. and there was such joy in sharing when stanley, vivian, anna or raymond gave you pointers to improve your practice.

i did something a little different at the end of the practice. i decided to chant mantras for papa before going into savasana. so i sat in half lotus and started chanting very softly, starting slowly and then going faster and faster, the simple mantra om mani padme om.

for the third time in my life, i think i felt divination – where there are moments that felt like pure light, gone in a blink of an eye. i didn’t feel time, or the usual ache in my knees. i felt like i was standing on the edge of happiness and saddness, missing dad deeply yet knowing that he’s in a much better place now. it felt right, it felt like everything was in its place and before i knew it, i had hot tears streaming down my cheeks as waves of relief swept over me. when i finally opened my eyes, i remember seeing anna’s smiling face from across the room and feeling safe, happy and sad as i finally sank into savasana.
