A sexy comedy about

a boy, a girl, three presents,

and the Joys of Giving.

Please sit back and enjoy the film.

:)

Missed it when it came out in the Cinemas, so I finally got it on DVD. I am a huge sucker for animal movies, and I’ve always had a soft spot for huskies *melts*. This Disney movie is both funny and emotionally engaging. As expected, I shed tears of joy and sympathy as I watched these 8 huskies strike out on their own in Antarctica. It was just heart wrenching every time they went hungry or got hurt. I also felt for Jerry (played by Paul Walker) when he was forced to leave his dogs stranded in Antarctica and had to pull out all stops just to go back to rescue them. The main themes explored in the film were good old values such as honor, loyalty and friendship. Good stuff for a night-in.

Wes Anderson has done it again! The film is brilliant! From the first frame to the last – Syak and I sat in our seats giggling like hyenas on acid. The blunt awkwardness of the three main characters were just so infectious on screen, that I half wished that real Life could be just as funny/awkward.

My favourite part of the film would have to be the very last scene with the boys running after their train and throwing away their baggage, both metaphorically and physically. Yes. Suitcases were designed by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. Other memorable parts of the film were the unexpected cameos, made by actors from past Wes Anderson movies that just lend such a great personal touch.

The movie has also sparked our wanderlust, I’m looking forward to a number of overseas trips this year: August//A wedding for my dear cousin, Jean+Mr Baby in Los Angelas. I can’t wait to make their wedding video, or to visit some of the yoga schools in LA. September// A trip to Dharamsala as part of The Dalai Lama Teaching Tour. Hopefully, I will have some good company to share this little adventure with, so I’m really hoping that Syak and Bryan will be agree to be my travel buddies. We’ll see.

Hors de Prix (English title: Priceless) is a gem of film starring Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh, set in a string of holiday resorts and exquisite hotel suites. Amongst the endless slew of 300 thread-count silk bedsheets, is a cute little story about how two people fall in love while suffering/extorting rich sugar mommies and sugar daddies. “We live in a material world” says Madonna, but its encouraging, even just within a film, to see that sometimes it is the actions that you do, which are priceless, that move the heart. Definitely a first date movie.

Last night, I stayed up way past my bedtime to watch “The Exorcism of Emily Rose“. Momo was nice enough to come over to lend me his shoulder to cling onto. The film ended just before 3am, the witching hour, so I took the necessary precaution of sleeping with all the lights flaring till 9am this morning. :P

The film is based on the life of Anneliese Michel who experienced what is recognized by medical professionals as severe psychiatric disturbances from the age of 16 to her death, at age 23, as a direct or indirect result of an exorcism ritual. Her parents and pastors were prosecuted with negligent homicide, and the trial that followed her death pitted the age-old feud between Medical Science vs. Religious Beliefs.

Did she really suffer from demonic possession? Or was it really severe psychiatric disturbances? Here is a before and after photo of her:

Personally, I am inclined to believe in the theory about demonic possession. Only because I have seen possessions with my own eyes before, in fact, I even have it on video. I think that there has to be more to life than just this physical plane that we’re experiencing. So… yes. I believe in spirits.

Meanwhile… here’s the movie trailer to spur your imaginations:

Cool little movie set in beautiful/hopeful Vancouver. Feels alot like a Zach Braff “Garden State” type of movie, complete with the feelgood movie soundtrack. Well-paced and easy on the visual/auditory senses, with servings of inoffensive humour. A safe bet for a Wednesday night.

A couple of things I now want to do because of this movie: 1. Get my favourite photos enlarged and hung onto walls. 2. Get detergent bottles and make them into colorful lamps. 3. Read Douglas Coupland (writer of the movie).
