Like Fins for Feet
November 15, 2009
Am incredibly proud of one of best friends, Perry Ho. His latest work… Like Fins For Feet is a wonderful illustrated book that he worked on for a long time… quietly together with Kristal Melson.
“One day, you awake to find a Blue Whale in your room. It is no different from the wind blowing across your path a moth or a paper bag. Once you get over the Whaleness of the moment, your day goes on, like it did yesterday, and most likely, like it will tomorrow. Today however…”
Look for the book in all good book stores, and if you find a whale bookmark within it’s pages, you’d be happy to know that Perry personally placed it there just for you. For more information about the book, please visit the official website for Like Fins for Feet.
Latest work | BLACKOUT
August 19, 2009
I was kindly invited by the organizers of BLACKOUT to document this amazing event and here’s what I’ve created. What is Blackout? Answer: Watch the video.
My favorite exhibit was definitely Effervescene by Chng Nai Wee. The field of lights were just so mesmerizing that I couldn’t help but gawk at it the first time I saw it. Yes… blinky lights. I’m attracted to that kinda thing, and so were my fellow spinners from Starlight Alliance who are also featured in the video.

This show looks so amazing! I love how his work is simple and straight to the point. The mockery, and the in-your-face provocativeness of the pieces speaks volumes. I especially love the series of caged animals. It so beautifully illustrates how cruel animal testing is and how toxic our food has become. Applause! Applause!
ART|Work
July 19, 2009
My eyes and ears were opened by a new friend today – Ian. Here is a guy who has been dating with one of my best friend for awhile now, but whom I’ve never gotten to known beyond superficial levels of Hello and Goodbyes.
But today, today… he really opened my mind. I pointed the camera at him and posed to him a simple question: “What do you think of this piece of Art?” He thought for awhile, and then proceeded to give me a detailed and profound insight into how he viewed this particular installation. He measured every nuance of his answer, and generously suggested his many readings of what he felt about the piece. I was deeply impressed and suddenly humbled.
For me, I’ve viewed this piece of work for two nights in a row, and it has always been just an object, in a warehouse, at an art exhibition, that I had to include in a video. To me, it was merely somebody else’s work, that I did not engage with, because I was busy doing my work – videotaping the event. But now, all of a sudden, Ian’s observations brought this object to life and it reminded me to engage with art. It also reminded me that I should view all future projects as ART|Work. Engage with real Life first, and then weave that into the video. Don’t forget to focus on what is really in front of you, and not just what you see through a view finder. Engage with Art. Engage with Life.
morning mysore
March 4, 2008
oh yes. today. i finally. finally. finally made it to mysore in the morning. rolled outta bed by 5.30am, and made it to the shala by 7am. whoolooloo! the resolution finally takes off! Truth is… I was awaken by a buzzing mosquito who left angry red bites on my face at 3am, and I just couldn’t fall asleep again.
morning mysore isso different from evening classes. wow. the whole vibe is really different, and I have to say… I really dig it. Though, I still fell flat on my arse in Bhujapidasana. No worries… practice. practice. practice. My teachers Anna and Stanley were pleasantly surprised when i entered the shala – they know what a sleepyhead i am… always coming to the shala half asleep on the weekends.
Mom and Grand Aunt are away in Malaysia for a week. I texted her yesterday and told her how much I miss her. The house is just so quiet and lonely without people milling around, watching TV, playing soduku, chasing cats, having dinner, chatting. First time I’ve felt really lost and alone at home since Papa’s passing, I guess I’m still grieving.
Meanwhile… I sigh at the sight of Anthony Poon’s work every time I go to the gym at Bugis Junction Tower. It’s at the main lobby of the office block, and people just walk past it without ever stopping to breathe it in. It’s absolutely beautiful. One day, when I get a better photo of it, I will post it up.
