When I got into taxi SHD2179P last Wednesday afternoon, little did I know I would be grilled for my religious beliefs (or lack of) by the cab driver who later introduced himself as a pastor, Samuel S. Yee. Five minutes into the cab ride and he asked if I was religious, I explained that I was a Buddhist, his response was ‘What would it take to convince you that there is only one true God?’, at that point… I knew that I was in for the ride of my life.
He ranted on about the problems with other organized religions, and that none of these religions have a God… “There is only one God!” he extolled. When I explained that I believed in religious plurality, he answered that he was only going to ‘pray for me’. He dominated air time by complaining about how some of his followers have left his church after he had helped them for years, and by that time… I started to feel like it was getting harder to breathe.
When he finally dropped me off, boy was I glad to get the hell out of his cab. I wonder now if there needs to be some kind of restraining order on cabbies who feel like converting their passengers? And I wonder if Prime Taxi knows about what Samuel S. Yee is subjecting his passengers to?
