The service staff at Pet Lovers Centre (Bugis Junction) really made me smile today! From ear-to-ear! This man was so generous! He gave me 4 small bags of free sample cat food to bring home, when I explained to him that I’ve completely run out of cat food at home, and had to wait for at least 2-3days before my next delivery of cat food. Instead of trying to sell me more cat food, he gave me freebies to tie me over. How nice! Awesome staff!
Now… if only they’d take IAMS off their shelves for good. That lousy pet food company that does really cruel animal testing. Urgh. Read all about it here.
For nearly 10 months in 2002 and early 2003, a PETA investigator worked undercover at Sinclair Research Center, a laboratory hired by Iams, and discovered a dark and sordid secret beneath the wholesome image of the dog- and cat-food manufacturer. Dogs had gone crazy because they were confined to barren steel cages and cement cells, dogs were left piled on a filthy paint-chipped floor after chunks of muscle had been hacked from their thighs, dogs were surgically debarked, and horribly sick dogs and cats were neglected and left in cages to suffer without any veterinary care.

Hello iamspidermonkey! I must, with respect, disagree with you.
I work for Iams. The video you have posted is from a facility we stopped using in March of 2003 because it did not meet our standards.
Over 70% of our feeding studies are done in consumers’ homes. The rest are done in a facility that we own (we do not use contract facilities). Here is a link to a video that shows our laboratory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dExk5nJY6AI.
We are a company of pet lovers, and here is one of the things we do to show our love: Since 1999, we have worked with shelters and rescue groups globally to encourage adoptions through our annual Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign. Here is a link to one of the event’s TV commercials, which ran in North America for our 2008 campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu7plXJQsjk&feature=channel_page. In three short months, we helped 1,202,751 pets find forever homes! Here’s how it breaks down:
- 3,500 animal organizations in 17 countries participated
- 591,533 dogs
- 543,569 cats
- 67,649 other animals (like rabbits, reptiles, birds, etc)
There are more videos showing Iams Home 4 the Holidays at:

I am very sorry to have intruded into your blog, but I wanted to let you know that we love animals and our goal will always be to enhance the well-being of dogs and cats.

Hello Bev. Thank you for your comment.
It’s great to hear a different side of the story. I will have a look at the videos and evaluate my stand on Iams products.
However, one question remains… if Iams no longer runs cruel animal testing facilities anymore… why does PETA still continue running iamscruelty.com? Surely Iams can take PETA to court for malicious slander?
hhhmm… very interesting…

I don’t know why they continue to target us–maybe it helps them raise money. The fact is that we care passionately about dogs and cats. Many of my co-workers donate their time at animal shelters or breed rescues. We bring our dogs and cats to work with us. And when you go into someone’s office, you don’t see framed photos of their children on the desk. You see pictures of their dogs and cats! It makes this a really great place to work, where we get paid to focus on our passion!
Thanks for letting me post my comments, and if you have any questions, just ask.

Hi, it was great reading this exchange. Though I logged into comments to be horrified at Iams I’m now pretty impressed by how seriously they/you take animal welfare.
Thanks for your post, spidermonkey–& for your response, Bev.
& I’m so touched by Pet Lovers Bugis! Will go there next time I’m at Nat Lib to pick up something even if I don’t need it! (cat treats, turtle stix, there’s always something running down…)
